The film "Smashing Monuments" (2022) by the Argentinian artist Sebastián Díaz Morales reflects some of the central ideas of documenta fifteen in a very personal way. The Indonesian art collective ruangrupa, which curated the last documenta, based it on the concept of a lumbung. In this instance, the lumbung – the Indonesian word for a communal rice barn – represents basic principles such as a community spirit and resource sharing. In "Smashing Monuments", five ruangrupa members discuss their core values with monuments in Jakarta. The film installation is part of the permanent exhibition "about: documenta" that provides an overview of the development of the international exhibition series from 1955 until the present.
