Special exhibition
15 December 2023 to 24 March 2024
Schloss Wilhelmshöhe palace

In the winter of 2023/24, an exhibition at Schloss Wilhelmshöhe palace intends to once again integrate contemporary social discourses into its own collection and therefore dedicates itself to the subject of queerness in its own repository. What alternative lifestyles, body images and sexualities we would sum up today under the term "queer" can be discovered in the works of the Old Masters, and how is a modern audience potentially also guided by their own socialisation?

The special exhibition intends to broaden the visitors' perception of the collection items through an open exhibition concept and active involvement with the aim of firstly, raising their awareness of this topic and secondly, focusing on the ambiguousness of the historic visual language. The concept, which includes exhibits from the entire collection, successfully unites objects from the various Hessen Kassel Heritage repositories under the banner of one subject and presents them from a new perspective.
